COMMON PROBLEMS

Creased or folded product

  • Product is getting caught on the bottom of the product stop wall
  • The hold down straps are in the wrong position
  • Decurling roller is too heavy
  • Product is running into the punch sensor
  • The truck is causing the product to curl up before the pinch rollers
  • Separator wheel too low
  • Separator wheel has too much traction
  • Head too low (typically accompanied with ribbon overfeeding)

Curling product

  • Printer needs a decurler
  • Too much pressure
  • If the product is curled by the decurler, the decurling roller is either too heavy or sticky

Double feeding or overlapping

  • Separator wheel too high
  • Separator wheel is rotating
  • Product is feeding at the wrong angle
  • Products have too much traction with each other

Ink not sticking/rubbing off

  • Temperature too low
  • Too low of a pressure
  • Feeding too fast
  • Head position incorrect
  • Wrong ribbon type being used
  • Head Gap incorrect

Moving print

  • Product has translucent parts or gaps
  • The product is not ejecting completely
  • Product slipping on belts
  • Head is moving the product

No gap error

  • Product is overlapping, or the gaps between products are too small
  • The product is not feeding at all or the gaps between products are too large (See below)
  • The product is not ejecting completely
  • The Punch sensor is misplaced
  • The Punch sensor is not reading the difference between the product and empty space (occurs if product is too translucent or if the sensor itself is dying)

Not printing (Attempting but nothing on product)

  • Head is dead (Try head dot test)
  • Ribbon is on backwards (See which side is shiny and try scraping off some ink with a fingernail)

Occasional blank product

  • Product is overlapping or the gaps between the products are too small
  • The product is not ejecting completely
  • Punch sensor is misplaced
  • Punch sensor is not reading the difference between the product and empty space (occurs if product is too translucent or if the sensor itself is dying)

Pooching ribbon

  • Mandrel tension too low
  • Head too low

Print quality (Consistent lines with no ink)

  • Head has dead dots (try head dot test)
  • Something is caught between the ribbon and the head (usually product is indented along the line of missing ink)
  • Printer thinks it is working with a printhead of the wrong size (When the printer boots up does it say 64-xx where xx is the print head size? Ex: If a 5” printhead is on the printer it should say 64-05 when booting up)

Print quality (Spottiness/inconsistent gaps or lines)

  • Temperature too low
  • Too low of a pressure
  • Feeding too fast
  • Ribbon folded or wrinkled
  • Head position incorrect
  • Wrong ribbon type being used
  • Head Gap incorrect

Print quality (tilt)

  • Product too small and only partially on belts
  • Product slipping on belts
  • Side guide not in the right position
  • Head is moving the product
  • Separator wheel too low or has too much traction

Printer not receiving Jobs

  • If connected by ethernet cable
    • IP address is incorect
    • The Ethernet cable is dead. (Does the switch/router notice the printer?)
    • Wrong port is open/driver is trying to access wrong port
    • Outdated/Incorrect driver installed
    • The Computer is no longer sending jobs due to a previous job fail (Open printer settings and check queue)
    • Outdated Printer firmware

Product not feeding or gap is too large

  • Separator Wheel too low
  • Side guide not in the right position
  • Product is feeding at the wrong angle
  • Products have too much traction with each other
  • Product is getting caught on the bottom of the product stop wall
  • Feed wheel can’t get traction on the product

Snapping/breaking ribbon

  • Mandrel tension too high
  • Pressure too high
  • Head too low
